A few days ago news broke that Jorge Posada, a 16 year veteran of the New York Yankees has decided to retire. This news is extremely bittersweet considering Jorge’s free agent status and the fact that it wasn’t really looking like he would sign with the Yankees again. It would have absolutely killed me if I had to see one of the only Yankees catchers I’ve ever known in another team’s uniform. I’m so happy that Jorgie has decided to retire in pinstripes with his head up high. I was afraid we were going to have another Bernie situation on our hands (I don’t want to talk about that…I get WAY too emotional.)
So thank you, Jorge. You were a huge contributor to my fabulous childhood and I still maintain that you should have been named co-captain alongside Jeter in 2003. I’ve always said that you will make an amazing manager someday because I’ve never seen a player who has as much passion for the game or as much loyalty to their team as you do. I hope that we’ll see you back in pinstripes as the skipper one day.
